XRP Available for Institutional Custody in South Korea Through BDACS

The South Korean digital asset landscape is evolving, with XRP now officially supported for custody by BDACS, a regulated cryptocurrency custodian catering to institutions. This development marks a significant step forward following Ripple's strategic partnership with BDACS, initially announced in February.

BDACS announced the launch of XRP custody services on X (formerly Twitter) on August 5th, emphasizing XRP's popularity within the South Korean market. The move aligns with South Korea's Financial Services Commission's (FSC) strategy to encourage broader institutional involvement in digital assets.

Strategic Partnership Fuels Expansion

The collaboration between Ripple and BDACS aims to improve institutional access to digital asset storage and management. BDACS plans to utilize Ripple Custody, a secure software platform designed for institutions. This platform will initially support XRP and Ripple's USD-denominated stablecoin, RLUSD.

This integration is also expected to empower developers building on the XRP Ledger and facilitate the use of tokenization and stablecoin adoption within South Korea.

Ripple's Asia-Pacific Strategy

Fiona Murray, Ripple's managing director for the Asia-Pacific region, highlighted that the partnership reflects increasing market activity and evolving regulatory frameworks in South Korea. BDACS's CEO, Harry Ryoo, reaffirmed the company's commitment to providing secure and compliant custody services to support Ripple's blockchain initiatives.

The XRP Ledger, a layer 1 blockchain renowned for its low-cost and scalable digital and tokenized asset transfers, is gaining traction. Ripple's stablecoin, RLUSD, is intended for enterprise and financial institution use, backed by dollar reserves.

Key Takeaways:

  • BDACS, a regulated South Korean crypto custodian, now offers XRP custody services.
  • The launch is a direct outcome of the partnership between Ripple and BDACS.

Investment Considerations

As always, investors should consider their risk tolerance and investment timeline before making allocation decisions. Bitcoin remains a volatile asset despite increasing institutional adoption.
